“Real Men Cook” Atlanta Father’s Day Charity Event

"Real Men Cook" Atlanta

The Real Men Cook Charity Event was held on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Atlanta Civic Center. Real Men Cook was started in Chicago on Father’s Day in 1989 by Yvette and Kofi Moyo to celebrate African American men, and now includes several cities.

Today, Real Men Cook® is the leading urban Father’s Day experience. It’s a food tasting family celebration featuring men volunteering to cook for and serve the community. Ticket sales proceeds are enjoyed by partnering non-profit organizations in ten cities. Cooking is an example for what men are willing to do for their families and communities, giving up Father’s Day pampering to make a difference.

Beyond the media value is the intrinsic value of the Real Men® brand. It points up the value and contribution of the males to healthy families and communities. Real Men cause us
to focus on not just the biological father, but men who make a difference in families and communities. Men and especially women alike appreciate and celebrate this concept.

The Civic Center was packed with women, men and children of all ages that were waiting to taste a variety of delicious food prepared and served by up to 100 men. There was so much to choose from and there was no way that you could get to it all! I know that there were celebrity taste testers there, but I had a couple of favorites my self!

I absolutely loved the turkey sliders prepared by Chef Darryl D. Armstrong and the Alligator bites prepared by Chef Arthur Herbert of Couteaux’s Catering.

I had the chance to catch up with Otis Threatt of 100 Black Men of Atlanta. And, I was able to see Congressman John Lewis in action!
